The Countdown to Christmas has begun.

Miss Pearce and her dad spent Sunday afteroon choosing this magnificent tree for the school hall. Staff and children have done a fantastic job of decorating it.  We wish all of you a peaceful and happy time during the season of advent.

Some important dates for you coming up this term.
Monday 10th December - Pupils from Cabot will be performing at St Paul's Unlimited AGM held at The Salvation Army on Ashley Road. Some of our Key Stage 1 pupils will be performing songs from this year's Christmas Performance and our Year 5 Steel Pan band will be playing some festive tunes.  All are welcome to come and support Cabot Primary School at this improtant Community event.

Tuesday 18th December - Key Stage 1 Christmas Play. The performance starts at 9:15.  Please arrive promptly to get the best seats. Latecomers will not be admitted as this causes distraction and disrupts the performance.  Pupils and staff are working very hard to create an impressive performance and we don't want anything to spoil it for them or the audience.

Thursday 20th December - School Christmas Dinner. Even if your child does not usually have a school dinner they are welcome to have one on this day. Please complete the request form and send payment to the office as soon as possible.

Thursday 20th December - Sparkle Day.  We understand that within our diverse community not everyone celebrates Christmas.   I think it is important to share with pupils the meaning of Christmas and its significance as a cultural and religous event.  However, as you know, Inclusion is one of our core values and we would like to have a day when we can all share in celebration regardless of faith.  Thursday 20th December will be Sparkle Day. A day when we encourage everyone to be as shiny and sparkly as possible, on the inside and out.  Pupils are invited to wear the sparkliest costumes possible. Prizes will be given for imaginative ideas.

Best Wishes

Achievement news!

I am very proud to announce that Cabot Primary School has been accredited with Every Child a Reader status. I had the pleasure of attending an award ceremony this morning where Mrs Goree was presented with our plaque.  Mrs Goree has worked extremely hard to ensure all pupils across the school are making progress in their reading.  She has been behind the purchasing of buying so many books and levelling them, developing the reading corners in the classrooms and supporting teachers in carrying out important assessment work.  Some of you will have met her directly as she has also been doing 1 to 1 Reading Recovery support for individual pupils.  This hard work has been reflected in our impressive Key Stage 1 test results which show Cabot pupils have outperformed pupils across Bristol and nationally in Reading. At the presentation today, Mrs Goree's work was celebrated by Bristol ECaR leaders as exemplary and a model for other schools to follow. I'm sure you will join me in celebrating our achievements and thanking Mrs Goree for her efforts.

Empowerment

Anti-Bullying week 19th - 23rd November

This week is Anti-Bullying week. We have planned lessons for pupils to help further their understanding of anti-bullying.  Further information can be found at this website.

I would like to take this opportunity to encourage you to spend some time talking to your children about bullying using social media.  It has been brought to our attention that some children have been using email and text messages to send unkind words to each other.  Please be aware of how your children are using their phones and computers.

Maths Evening for Parents

Thank you for attending the presentations by class teachers last week.  I was very pleased to see the talks so well attended.  As you know, maths is a key area of focus for improvement at Cabot.  A close working partnership between school and parents will help us support pupils in achieving their full potential.  Look out for photos of the maths evening in the News section soon.

Goodbyes and Welcomes.

It was a busy last week with many mixed emotions.  Saying goodbye to Jason gave us an opportunity to celebrate the great contribution he made to the school over the past 8 years.  But it was also sad to see him go and there were more than a few tears in his farewell assembly.  He isn't far away and has promised to keep in touch regularly.

We have appointed three new members of staff.
Mrs Mepham, Mr Smyth and Miss Dennis are now working in the school as LSAs.  They will be helping individual children and small groups of pupils across the school with a variety of interventions to support learning.

Welcome to Term 2 at Cabot.

I hope all our Muslim families had happy and peaceful Eid celebrations during the holidays. I was very pleased to see so many of you at the Sports Centre as I was going for my holiday workout in the gym.  Everyone looked so smart in their Eid clothes.

Term 2 is always an exciting time as we lead up to the Christmas Holidays. I have some important dates to let you know about.

Please come and help us celebrate together.

Thursday 15th November - Maths' Evening For Parents

Friday 21st December - End of Term 2

So, plenty to be getting on with already. I'm looking forward to seeing how that has inspired them with their learning.

Bye for now.

Music at Cabot

Dear Parents,

I wanted to share with you some of the musical highlights we have had already this year.  Last year our pupils performed twice at Colston Hall and at the opeing ceremnoy of the Olympics. We are building on those successes this academic year. Our Steel Pan band performed at Afrifest to mark the start of Black History Month and our Year 4 pupils are learning to play the Ukulele. Watch out for news of future performances.

Yours sincerely

Mr Burton

Parents' Evening

Hello All,

It has been very pleasing to see so many of you at your parents' evening meetings. I believe a strong partnership between home and school is key to your children making good progress in their learning. I hope you have found the meetings useful and that you feel well informed about how your children are getting on at Cabot. Please remember, if you have any concerns about your child you can make an appointment to see your child's teacher straight away, you don't have to wait until the next parents' meeting.

Thank you to those of you who have completed the Parent View questionnaire on the Ofsted website. If you have done it yet then please find the link from the parents' page of our school website.

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to Cabot Primary School!

Eid Mubarak! I hope all our families celebrating Eid at the end of August had a peaceful and enjoyable time.

We have had a very positive start to the year.  The children have settled quickly into learning with their new teachers and year groups.  It is very pleasing to see pupils so well prepared with smart uniforms, book bags and happy smiles.
You will have noticed many new improvements to the school building and surroundings.  Over the Summer holidays we have improved the children’s toilets, remodelled the Reception, Year 2 and Year 3 classrooms, increased the outdoor play space and begun to prepare for a new extension building which is planned to start this coming year.  We are very grateful to Philippa Thorne, our school business manager and Mr Copley, who both worked hard to ensure the work was completed in time for the start of term.  I will post some photographs of the improvements on the school website next week.

Best Wishes
