PUPILS at Cabot Primary School are celebrating the opening of their new library.
The school in St Pauls has so far been without a dedicated library space, but now they have a new £35,000 facility housing story books, textbooks and iPads.
Gemma Davies, a reading recovery teacher, said: "This is a fantastic
resource and opportunity for the children.
"Before we had the library, we had books in classrooms but no space for the children to go and read and
research. It is brilliant to see it open.
"It has got brand new furniture,
computers, places to sit and books for them, it's an amazing space. We are grateful to have it."
Around 190 children attend the school, which put aside part of its budget to turn the building into a library.
The school also has Reading Recovery teaching, an intervention scheme for children with reading difficulties.
Specially-trained teachers
work with six-year-olds who are in the bottom 20 per cent of their class in terms of reading.
