Chess Success!

Congratulations to all our pupils who took part in our Chess in Schools competition thisweek.  All our pupils played really well, and I've heard back from the organisers that their spoting behaviour was exemplary.  A special well done needs to go to our Year 6 team who came first in the Year 6 category - out of all the teams that took part from across Bristol.  We are very proud of you!

Visit to Horseworld

I was lucky enough to go along on one of our school visits at the end of last term.  I joined Year 3 on their trip to Horseworld.  The children learnt lots of interesting facts, including how horses digest their food.  But the best part was getting up close to the horses themselves.  They were all so friendly!

Everyone got the chance to groom a horse and take one for a walk. There was time for some horse hugs too.  Thanks inviting me along Year 3.

Dads v Staff Football

There was a great deal of action and excitement in today's Dads versus Staff football match this afternoon.  It seemed at one point the Staff were going to run away with a victory but the Dads worked their way back in to the game from 4-1 down.  The final score was 7-7.  Well done to all the staff for a thrilling game and thank you to the supportive crowd for turning out to cheer us all on.

Balloon update

We are delighted to hear that two of our balloons have already been found.  Both were discovered in different locations on the Isle of Wight.  Two very kind people have taken the time to reply to the school.  One lady found a balloon in her back garden and man found the other while checking his sheep.

It's great to know that our biodegradable balloons have made it so far.

Spelling Bee Champions

Well done Year 2 children for winning the 4LP spelling bee tournament.  There was strong competition from our partners schools, St Barnabas, St Werburgh's and Glenfrome but it was Cabot that emerged champions.

Up, up and away!

It was a perfect clear morning for our balloon release.   Every child has written a message on a balloon to send to people far and wide. The messages ask the finders to contact the school and let us know how far the balloons travelled.  Thank you Mrs Hunter for organising this great Writing Week event.  We are looking forward to receiving some replies.  The balloons seemed to be going in a south westerly direction.  Perhaps they'll make it to France? Or maybe across Europe and into Africa?

We took great care in ensuring all the balloons are biodegradable and there are no strings attached that could cause harm to wildlife.

Our mobile planetarium visit

Welcome back to Cabot for term 5 everyone.

One of the highlights from our first week back was the visit from Immersive Theatres.  They quite literally filled our school hall with an inflatable planetarium.  Every class got the opportunity to experience a session in the dome.  We were guided through the stars and planets in our night sky, before a virtual trip to far off galaxies.

I know children learnt a great deal and thoroughly enjoyed this learning opportunity.  I felt very proud when Mario, the planetarium guide took time to write back to us.  Here are a couple of lines from his email....

"I really enjoyed delivering the programme and found the students to be well behaved, respectful and engaged.  In fact, as I mentioned this morning, I found all the classes to be exceptionally well behaved.  I visit many primary schools and can honestly say I haven't witnessed such a high level of student attention and appreciation for the programme in a very long time."

Well done Cabot pupils - we are proud of you!
