Mothers' Day Lunch

Our hall is an especially happy place to be this lunchtime as we are having our special celebratory  Mothers' Day lunch.  Well done mums for being such special people!  This is our way of celebrating all that you do.
And thank you to the kitchen, office and lunchtime staff for helping the day run so smoothly.

It's Book Week

Yesterday was World Book Day, but as you know we have been celebrating all things booky for the whole week.  Every class has made a visit to Foyle's and each child has there own special World Book Day edition book.  Throughout the week we have had special visitors read to children and of course, we had our bedtime stories and our dress up day.  Thank you all for your support this week.  I'm sure you'll join me in thanking Miss Davies for organising these wonderful events.  We know our pupils are getting better and better at reading.  We are so happy they enjoy reading so much.

Best wishes,

Mr Burton

Blast off!

Last term Year 2 did a topic of learning called Blast Off! Their learning was inspired by space discoveries and adventures.  Today, Owen came to show me a model of the Apollo 11 rocket, recreated in amazing detail.  I thought it must have been a kit but no, it's made entirely from junk around his home and garden.  The point at the top is actually a bamboo cane.  What a fantastic piece of work!

Well done Owen!

Writing Award Winners

We were very pleased to welcome two special guests to our Key Stage 2 assembly this morning.   Representatives from the Rotary Club of Bristol, Mr Robin Nash and Ms Moira Currie, came to present three of our Year 6 pupils with awards for winning a writing competition. We know Mr Nash of course, as he is one of our school governors. We are grateful to him and his fellow Rotarians for inviting our school to take part in their writing competition.  Both Mr Nash and Ms Currie were very impressed by the standard of writing shown by all of Year 6 and commented on the very mature standard of work demonstrated by our pupils.   They explained it had been a difficult task choosing the overall winner but were very pleased to present first prize to Sami, second prize to Nafeesa and third prize to Selah.  Each child received book tokens which we know they will be very well spent.

Well done all of Year 6, and thank you to the Rotary Club of Bristol.

French Week

We are celebrating all things French this week.  There's been lots of fun tasting food and learning about French culture.  Mrs Cartlidge, our specialist French teacher, delivered a fascinating assembly about the French Revolution to our Key Stage 2 pupils today, almost entirely French.  I was very impressed by how well our pupils were able to use the French vocabulary they have learnt and infer from Mrs Cartlidge's expressions and picture prompts enough to secure a good understanding of what they were being told.  We know our children are great learners that can listen well and make connections with what they already know.  This seems especially true when learning languages.

Tomorrow is Red, White and Blue day.  We look forward to seeing the children in their colours of France.

Best wishes,

Mr Burton
