Dinosaur visit!

Well this has never happened before...

Miss Hunter's very interesting story in assembly was interrupted by a T-Rex!

Apparently his name is Dezel and he's very friendly.  We were told that he has escaped from Bristol zoo and just fancied a look around the school.  We learnt lots about him from his friendly keepers and our children made him feel so welcome he stayed for lunch.

Bristol Together Champions!

Last Friday 30 schools from across Bristol went to the sports grounds at UWE to take part in the Bristol Together Football Championships.  Cabot children were partnered with West Town Lane Academy.  After  successfully winning our group, out team went on to win in the semi finals and again in the finals.  That means we are the Champions!  Well done Year 5 pupils for winning the excellent collaborative event.

UKLA Book awards at Cabot

It was our pleasure to host the Bristol UKLA book award ceremony at Cabot this week.  The awards are given to schools where teachers have demonstrated how they have used current high quality literature to inspire and motivate pupils.  We came first in the 3-6 year old category!
We were honoured to welcome local and national reading experts to our library for the celebration event.  Our guests included Nikki Gamble, an Associate Consultant at UCL's Institute of Education, Lynda Graham, the UKLA Award Organiser and many of Bristol's senior education leaders.

We are very proud of the recognition we receive for our achievements.  Our Reading Team led by Miss Davies and Mr Town are doing a great job helping our children to read well.

Cabot Children at UWE Conference

I was especially proud of some of our pupils last week.  Mr Shamsudin and some of our Year 5 pupils and parents were invited to speak and perform at Conference held at the University of the West of England.  Our slot on the timetable was straight after two Doctors of Education and an Ofsted inspector.  We felt we were in good professional company!

Mr Shamsudin and the children did a great job of showcasing their learning through speaking and reading in accurate Somali and an excellent drama performance.

We have received some very positive feedback from UWE and the conference delegates :

In the feedback delegates were asked what were the Highlights of this conference:

“meeting the Somali students from Cabot School”

“The students who did the play were fantastic”

“great to have the pupils’ input”

Once again our children have demonstrated what great learners they are.  We are grateful to UWE for inviting us and for making sure our children and parents had a great visit to one of our local universities.

Staff 10k success!

Our staff running team all successfully completed the 10k, with some personal best times too (including me!).

Thank you for all the kind words and support you have offered.  We have raised some money towards the Save the Children fund to help the famine relief appeal in East Africa.
