ITV news report

Welcome back to Cabot for Term 6.

As some of you know we had TV cameras at Cabot on Tuesday. This was part of a report covering the news story about Ofsted inspecting the quality of support given to schools in Brsitol by the local authority.  There does seem to be a disappointly negative tone to the coverage of this issue.  The media want to know what the council is doing to help schools improve. I was asked if I could showcase Cabot as a school that is improving quickly.  We know that in the past the achievement of pupils has not been as high as other schools. However, this is changing, very quickly. Our children in Reception and Year 2 have some of the highest results in Bristol. We know that although outcomes at Year 6 have improved enormously in the last 4 years (2009 21% pupils achieved expected levels in English and Maths compared to 64% in 2011), we believe the the children can still do better.  We expect our current Year 6 pupils to achieve the best results the school has ever had.  I look forward to sharing their good results with you very soon.

We were chosen to be on television because of the good progress the school is making. I think the class of children shown working with Mrs Wilkins were an excellent representation of the high quality teaching and learning happening at Cabot now. The children were well focussed on their learning and showed their excellent attitude to school life.  Although the reporter discussed problems in other schools while showing pictures of Cabot, it is well known that our children are improving in their learning.  We were invited to do the report for positive reasons. I felt very proud of how the children and the school appeared.

Your children are good learners and Cabot Primary School is a school the community can feel very proud of.
